Ethics and disclosures
Readers should know who is behind Orbit and what interests could affect our coverage. Here are our commitments and our disclosures.
Our commitments
- Accuracy over speed. We would rather publish late than publish something we can't confirm.
- Independence. No advertiser, partner or sponsor reviews or approves our briefs before publication.
- Fairness. We present disagreements between sources openly and don't choose sides.
- Transparency. We disclose how briefs are made, including our use of AI, and we correct mistakes in public.
- Credit. We always credit and link the outlets whose reporting our briefs are based on.
Use of artificial intelligence
Orbit uses AI to group related news reports and to draft briefs from them. AI does not decide what is published. Every brief is reviewed by an editor, who checks it against the sources. AI is never used to invent quotes, people, images of real people or facts. How we source.
Disclosures
Orbit is a campaign of Twelvenets LLC, which also runs Purple Jam, Cuba512 and +SocialGood.
Our Editor-in-Chief, Emmanuel Nyame, holds these outside roles:
- Founder and CEO, Twelvenets LLC
- Global Communications & Engagement Consultant, United Nations Foundation
- Member, SXSW Board
- Editorial Reviewer, Bankrate
How we handle conflicts
When a story involves an organization connected to Orbit or to its editors, that editor does not review it alone. Another reviewer checks it, or the brief carries a note disclosing the connection. If neither is possible, we don't publish the story.
Gifts and payments
Orbit and its editors do not accept payment, gifts or favors in exchange for coverage.
